Director of Pro Helvetia – the Swiss Arts Council. Its aim is to support projects involving Swiss artists, promote the traditions of the country and conduct cultural exchange. Pro Helvetia operates in numerous countries, one of its branch offices is located in Warsaw.

Pius Knüsel studied philosophy and German literature at the University in Zurich. Initially, he worked as a Culture Editor for the Swiss TV; later became an artistic director of the Moods Jazz Club and of the first edition of the international Jazznojazz festival in Zurich. Member of the board of the Europe Jazz Network (until 2002).

Since 1998 he has been gaining experience in culture management, e.g. as the head of the cultural sponsoring department of Credit Suisse. Knüsel was also the member of the committee and board of the postgraduate culture management program at the Zürcher Hochschule für Angewandte Wissenschaften in Winterthur. In 2000 he co-created Forums Kultur und Ökonomie. His interests include issues connected with social integration, diversity of culture and its globalization. A supporter of the independence of cultural agencies, claims that provocation lies in the nature of art, which should be defined neither by the politicians, nor by the institutions themselves.
