The first rule of fundraising is: Don’t be a solicitor, be a partner.

Anyone who’s ever tried to convince a sponsor to support their cause knows just how hard the task can be. Confidence itself isn’t enough to make you a partner. You also need innovative solutions, mutual (not one-sided) benefits, and — most importantly — a good proposal directed to the right people. Why doesn’t the entitlement mentality work in fun-draising?
