Alien Europe debate
Is the “European character” a strictly intellectual construct? Who is the “Other” in modern Europe? What does the contemporary European diversity mean, not just in the context of ethnic and religious differences, but also differences between subcultures, generations, and people of varying competence.
Participants: Azra Akšamija, conceptual artist, currently enrolled in the Aga Khan Program for Islamic Architecture at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology; Tigran Mansurian, Armenian composer, one of the principal representatives of the so-called “new spirituality” in music; Paul Scheffer, professor of urban studies at the University of Amsterdam, in his research, he explores issues of multicultural Europe; Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak, cultural critic, one of the biggest names in postcolonial and feminist thought, professor at Columbia University. Moderator: Dejan Ilić, a literary expert, journalist, publisher, and translator, leads a publishing house Fabrika knijga (Book Factory).
