Ready, Steady, Go!

The National Audiovisual Institute is preparing a program whose main theme is culture’s potential as a tool for social change.

Poland will head the European Union Council from July 1 to December 31, 2011. Aside from its political dimension, the Presidency also gives the country holding it an opportunity to build up its image. Culture has long played an important role in promoting Poland in the European Union, therefore the participation of Polish cultural institutions and independent organizations in the preparations for the Presidency is a natural choice. The Minister of Culture and National Heritage has entrusted the National Audiovisual Institute with preparing and implementing the National Cultural Program of the Polish Presidency, while the Adam Mickiewicz Institute has been tasked with preparing and implementing a program of international cultural events.

The National Audiovisual Institute is preparing a program whose main theme is culture’s potential as a tool for social change, in keeping with the guidelines of the “Poland 2030 Report” published by the Board of Strategic Advisors to the Prime Minister of Poland. The program will highlight the role of the arts in shaping civil society and creativity in culture as well as ostensibly remote fields such as the economy and industry. We wish to stress the active participation of non-governmental organizations and grassroots cultural initiatives in these processes, and address the subject of the Eastern Partnership.
