The Inauguration of the Polish Presidency

The program of the inauguration, based on the British tradition of the promenade concert, is planned as an all-day musical performance.

On July 1, 2011 in downtown Warsaw, four outdoor stages will be set up, each devoted to a separate genre of music, while local cultural institutions will remain open to the early hours of the morning (as on Museum Night). Selected concerts will be broadcast live on screens located in popular spots throughout the city

Main Stage, Plac Defilad (Parade Square)

The inaugural concert will feature the greatest works of Polish classical music, jazz, and film music in masterful arrangements by European artists, as well as European music performed by Polish musicians. The events will also include a premiere performance of a piece specially composed for the occasion by Paweł Mykietyn. The evening’s celebrations will end with a fireworks show.

Honorary guests of the event will include high-ranking Polish politicians, among them the Prime Minister.

Experimental Stage, Powiśle Power Station

The industrial spaces of the former power station on the banks of the Vistula will host performances of electronic music, improvised music, alternative, post-rock, and jazz. The all-night musical marathon will be a collective audio-visual project created by Polish and international artists.

World Music Stage, New Town Square

The World Music Stage, located near Warsaw’s Old Town, will feature a multicultural collage of music that combines various genres while mixing tradition and modernity, with inspiration from Polish and European folk culture, as well from the ethnic and national minorities that inhabit or once inhabited Poland.

Children’s Stage, Mariensztat

The Mariensztat Square will be adapted to host a selection of interdisciplinary projects for children. Events will combine music, dance, theater, visual arts, multimedia, and science, in a fun, family picnic atmosphere. The day’s program is intended for children of all ages, from pre-school to junior high school.
