Radio Fish: interview with Cezary Ciszewski on "Miasta w Komie" project
Interview with Cezary Ciszewski about his “Miasta w Komie” (Cities in Cellphones) project – a cellphone-recorded television . During the conversation issues such as perspectives and opportunities for the development of civil journalism were discussed. To what extent are journalists and film makers capable of not having their ambitions and hunger for publicity drive their professional work? Limitations to traditional media, claims Ciszewski, are high production costs and the dominant culture of celebrities and nicely ‘packaged’ interviews lacking in substance.
One of the stories brought up during the interview was that of Mohammed Bouazizi, a Tunesian citizen, whose self-immolation recorded on a cellphone sparked a revolution in North African countries. It shows, according to Ciszewski, the potential which lies in widely available electronic media.
Journalists from Belarus noticed similarities between the “Miasta w Komie” television and their internet civil radio “Radio Fish” which publishes podcasts which serve as an alternative to the official state culture. The interview was conducted by Dzmitry Hurnievic of the Belarus Section of the Polish Radio External Services and Liolik Uchkin from Radio Fish.
Broadcast produced as part of the Radio Fish project.
